All iPods excluding the iPod Touch (2nd generation) to the iPod Touch (7th generation) and the IPod nano (7th generation) lack bluetooth functionality. The Bluetooth Mod involves adding Bluetooth functionality to certain iPods by intervening in the output of an iPod. This modification is not simple and requires a comprehensive soldering knowledge to perform. For a simpler way to add Bluetooth functionality to your iPod, external Bluetooth adapters are highly recommended.

Methodology

There are two routes one can follow to accomplish this modification:

• AUX to Bluetooth dongle, or a 30-Pin to Bluetooth adapter (Ex: Kokkia 30-pin to Bluetooth).
• Hardware modification (tends to involve soldering and attaching extra components to the iPod logic board).
