The iPod Nano 4th Generation was released September 9, 2008 as the successor to the 3rd Generation iPod Nano. It brought back the "candybar" form factor featured in the 1st and 2nd Generation iPod Nanos, while retaining the 2 inch screen and video features of the 3rd Generation iPod Nano. In order to retain the Cover Flow ability in the Candy Bar form factor, an accelerometer was added to the 4th gen nano. Select Click Wheel Games also utilized the nano's accelerometer.
